With over 40 years of brand heritage, Croma remains a trailblazer in the aesthetics industry, offering cutting-edge innovations that have transformed non-invasive treatments for patients globally.
On Monday 30th September, we had the honour of attending the Croma Scientific Meeting at the prestigious Royal College of General Practitioners. The event featured a globally-renowned panel of speakers and offered an in-depth exploration of the Croma portfolio, showcasing the latest product advancements, emerging trends, and real-life case studies. Here’s an insight into some of the key discussions...
A broad portfolio to meet your patients’ needs
Professor Syed Haq opened the event with a detailed overview of the Croma portfolio. He emphasised that many healthcare practitioners seek brands with a comprehensive product range, as it allows for personalised treatments that address patient concerns more effectively, leading to higher satisfaction and better outcomes.
Prof Haq highlighted the importance of tailored solutions, particularly in using fillers with different densities for specific facial areas—for instance, thicker fillers for midface volume and softer fillers for lip augmentation. He also discussed Croma’s Saypha range, which offers a wide array of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers tailored for various treatment areas. The Saypha range, now equipped with colour-coded syringes for easier selection, is the first dermal filler approved for aesthetic use under the MDR (EU Medical Device Regulation). This approval is a sign of product quality, effectiveness and patient safety.
Latest trends in skin rejuvenation
Award-winning Aesthetic Nurse, Anna Baker discussed the latest trends in skin rejuvenation, sharing a key insight: despite patients being more informed than ever, hyperpigmentation caused by sun exposure remains a top concern in clinics, and patients are increasingly seeking treatments to combat signs of ageing.
Baker pointed out that everyone’s skin architecture is extrinsically different, meaning we all age differently. However, addressing a compromised skin barrier is crucial before beginning rejuvenation treatments. She highlighted how combining energy-based approaches with injectables such as Croma PhilArt polynucleotides can deliver exceptional results and promote faster healing. Whilst dermal fillers remain a popular option, many patients are still hesitant due to fears of looking ‘overdone’.
Countourel threads
Dr Rita Poddar took the stage to discuss the use of PDO threads from the Countourel range. She emphasised that dermal fillers alone are not a ‘cure all’, and a multi-modal approach may be required to achieve optimal results.
Dr Poddar explained that she first ventured into the world of PDO threads, as she was looking for a way to lift the face without overfilling. Whilst fillers still have their place, she is an advocate for first supporting the facial structure with threads, followed by a targeted application of dermal filler to enhance volume in areas that need it most. She also stressed the importance of patient communication and managing expectations throughout the treatment journey. Patients should be aware that while threads may not provide a surgical result, they still offer noticeable and impactful improvements.

The emotional impact of the perioral area
In the afternoon, Grace Cobner of Azira Aesthetics highlighted the emotional impact of the perioral area and how the ‘social media effect’ has influenced self-perception. She discussed that patients’ confidence is more negatively affected by distorted features from poor dermal filler treatments than by their natural anatomy alone. Grace stressed that bad filler cannot be fixed with more filler, making it crucial for practitioners to choose a brand with a broad portfolio to ensure the right products are used. She emphasised that improving the volume, symmetry, and shape of the perioral area, when done correctly, can significantly enhance facial balance and boost a patient’s quality of life.
#FutureHuman
The day concluded with a special session on the concept of the #FutureHuman, led by Dr Mayoni Gooneratne. She stated that the future is not something that happens to us, but rather something that we create ourselves. By understanding epigenetics—where 20% is determined by our genes and 80% by environmental factors—we can empower ourselves to make healthier choices, managing stress, diet, and lifestyle to shape our future well-being.
